Methyl mercaptan is a high value intermediate chemical. Mercaptan is used as a gas odorant, raw material in manufacture of pesticides, and to manufacture high priced pharmaceuticals like methionene.

 Raw materials for manufacturing methyl mercaptan are methanol and hydrogen sulphide.
